What is Macular Disease?

The macula is the central part of the retina that provides your sharp, detailed vision. When macular disease reduces vision not only is reading impaired, but seeing signs, faces, television and the computer are also affected. While magnifiers and large print may help you to read, only moving closer or using a telescope can help you to see better at a distance.

How do telescopes help blurred vision?

By making the image larger, many visually impaired can see things further away.

For example, if you can’t recognize a loved one’s face further than 5 feet away, a 4 power telescope may enable you to see them as far as 20 feet away!

What are Bioptic Telescopes?

Bioptics are miniature telescopes mounted into the top of eyeglasses. They are a convenient way to magnify distant objects because you don’t have to hold and aim the telescope, making it instantly available and leaving the hands free.

Galilean telescopes are small in size but provide a narrow field of view, limiting their value to lower powers. They are less expensive because they contain fewer optical components.

Keplerian telescopes provide edge-to-edge image sharpness and supply an almost 3 times larger field of view than the same power Galilean telescope.

The VES-Sport combines the best of both worlds--a bright, sharp image in a lightweight, stylish and comfortable design. It’s even available in colors!

The VES-K manual focus bioptic telescope offers Ocutech’s wide-field Keplerian optics in 3x, 4x and 6x powers. As with all of Ocutech’s VES optics, its small, lightweight and comfortable design provides edge-to-edge image sharpness. Patients can wear the VES-K all day long.

There is no smaller, lighter weight, wider field bioptic than the Ocutech VES-Mini. Providing a 3x, 15 degree field of view, the VES-Mini is equivalent in size to small focusing Galilean telescopes, only half the size of other expanded field telescopes, weighs less than an ounce, and focuses to as close as 9 inches! Provided in a traditional through-the-lens mounting design, it can be prescribed for one or both eyes and for distance or near.

The improved version of Ocutech’s original optical design, the VES-II offers wide-field optics, a bright image, and light weight. Its fully adjustable mechanical mounting system makes prescribing a high quality bioptic system quick, convenient and readjustable.
