New Research Confirms: Bioptics Significantly Improve Road Sign Recognition Distance
A newly published academic study in Optometry and Vision Science confirms what Ocutech users have long known—bioptic telescopes enhance functional vision in driving environments. In this on-road study of individuals with reduced visual acuity, participants recognized road signs 2.6 times farther away when using bioptic telescopes compared to without.
Out of the 10 devices used in the study, 8 were Ocutech bioptics, including the VES Sport and Mini. These findings provide compelling evidence that bioptics offer a meaningful safety benefit by extending visual recognition distance—helping users identify signs earlier and respond more effectively to road conditions.
This study marks an important step in validating bioptic use for driving across jurisdictions.
