If you haven't heard the news, Ocutech released its newest and highly anticipated VES-Falcon Autofocus Bioptic at the end of 2018. It is the only autofocusing bioptic in the world and the closest thing to magnified natural vision. Because of high demand and limited supply, only a handful of low vision patients have been able to purchase the Falcon. Pastor Robert Parrish of Raleigh, NC is one of those individuals recently fitted with the VES-Falcon by Ocutech's very own president and co-founder, Dr. Henry Greene, OD.
It really helps my quality of life– I’ll be connected to the world around me once again,” said Parrish. “I can recognize people – I’ll be able to see my congregants in the pews, see signs and packages in stores, watch some TV and travel about more confidently. It’s so much better than my original version. It’s a miracle.Pastor Robert Parrish
Parrish, who has worn Ocutech's original autofocus telescope since the 1990s, discontinued using the device when it could no longer be repaired. Earlier this year, a congregation member noticed that he no longer used his original device and started a GoFundMe page, raising $3,900 to help Parrish obtain his new Falcon.
Having lost all vision in his right eye from glaucoma as well as a fair amount of vision in his left eye, Parrish was fitted with the new Falcon by Dr. Henry Greene at Academy Eye Associates in Durham. Greene, an optometrist and low vision expert, is a co-founder of Ocutech and former UNC Chapel Hill Ophthalmology faculty member.
